The Brief 

Action for Children approached us to produce a set of films to be used as part of their Fair by Five Campaign to advocate for better and more consistent education for all children under five to help support their start at school.

The Idea 

The creative team at Kartoffel loved this brief.  Initially, the client was keen to use entirely animation as an approach.  In the client’s existing brand at the time we saw an opportunity to really bring the campaign to life by effectively animating their brand guides.  By using real kids’ shot in the studio we created a base with their branding elements that could be effectively played and interacted with.  Key messages were delivered by the animated motion and also a voice-over from a five-year-old.

The Process 

The first step of the project was to produce a detailed visual script that played out what would be seen on the screen and also the voice-over.  Moodboard were generated to show the style of the films.

A set of 3 children under 5 were cast for the project.   The shoot day happened in a studio space with a white backdrop and studio lights.  Each of the scenes had to be carefully directed to ensure we had the right footage to late be able to wrap the animated elements in.   Keeping the kids happy and playful across the shoot day was a challenge but a fun one. 

Once we had the footage shot we moved it onto our animators who first created the needed edited segment with a guiding voice-over.    These were animated upon.  The final step was to record a voice-over in a professional studio with one of our team of 5 years olds.    Of the many projects we have run at Kartoffel Films this one we are particularly proud of and it was allso really good fun to make
